Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a Flinders account verification method that uses a smartphone app (Okta Verify or Google Authenticator) to occasionally ask you to verify your login to Okta. As the login requires not only something you know (password) but also something you have (your mobile device), it makes it difficult for hackers to login to your account even if your credentials get stolen.

MFA will become mandatory on all student accounts from December 2019, to increase security of student accounts. This is being introduced for your own identity protection and for the protection of University information.

You can enrol your device for MFA now through the Enrol Multifactor icon on Okta. After December, you won’t be able to sign in off campus without MFA enabled. For more information see the
MFA webpage.
