Yes, you can be known by your preferred name in most circumstances. If you are known by a preferred name or nickname, then you can request this to be recorded in the system. This will allow you to be recognised on campus by your preferred name in online contexts such as in FLO forums and your Flinders email.
To request a change of your preferred name at Flinders University, log in to Ask Flinders, click on the ‘My Support’ at the top of this page and lodge a request stating your preferred name for the purpose of FLO forums and your Flinders email.
However, unless you formally change your name with Births, Deaths and Marriages, your currently recorded given name(s) and family name will be retained on all official documents including your transcript and parchment.
If you need to change your given name(s) or family name at Flinders University, please see I need to change my name. What do I need to do? for advice.
